Exploring Multi-modal inputs experience into Copilot appchat for enterprise Office product users
Overview
This summer, I had the opportunity to work with Microsoft as an product design intern at Office AI team. Specifically focused on exploring multi-modal inputs experience into Copilot appchat for enterprise Office product users, improving LLM’s intent detection and context understanding while interacting with users. During the three months I was there, I was able to see the product through ideation, research, prototyping, iterating, and user testing.
Due to NDA restrictions, I am unable to share some of the progress or visuals of the projects, so please contact me: llyi981023@gmail.com if you want to find out more!
Learnings and Takeaways
Always having users in mind for every design decision
One of my biggest takeways from the projects I have worked on during the internship is to always prioritize the user's intent, behavior, and experience when making design decisions. Each design choice should consider the user scenarios and overall user experience of the product, seamlessly integrating with the user flow and aligning with user intent.
Having a product thinking mindset
Having never worked with developers, PM, researchers and content designers at the same time, it was a learning experience for me to collaborate cross-discipline, one of my key learnings is to consistently keep the product goals, timeline, and technical constraints in mind. It's crucial to discuss the product specifications with collaborators, considering the project timeline and technical limitations. Additionally, it's important to take a step back and evaluate whether the feature will significantly drive user growth once launched and whether it can be shared across Office products.
Having a growth mind
One of Microsoft's core missions is to foster a growth mindset, and I truly experienced this through the support and encouragement I received from everyone I worked with. My manager, mentors, and team members were proactive in assisting me throughout every aspect of my internship journey. Their guidance not only shaped the way I approach design but also influenced the person I aspire to be in my future career and daily life.
Much Love!!!
I would like to once again express my heartfelt gratitude to all the incredible people who supported me during my internship journey. Your help and encouragement mean far more than words can convey.
